Fall is finally here. Foliage is changing ever so slightly every day. Enjoy the season and try apple picking with the family, and don't forget to buy a pumpkin. It always makes me smile, to look for interesting pumpkins. Remember to spray for mosquitoes before going out. We still need two good frosts to keep Triple EEE from effecting us. Newton, NH had a positive result this week, and as a result we sprayed key areas last night (10/6/09). So be safe and cover up before going out. Have a great night, Trisha

Enjoyed the beautiful weather over this Memorial Day weekend.. The Newton parade was a great success. State Senator Maggie Hassan, and State Representatives Kim Casey and Mary Allen joined the Selectman and Veteran's honoring our fallen comrades. I was the "MC" for the parade and was lucky to have so many people that helped make this event fabulous. The boy scouts, girls scouts and High School Band added the finishing touch to a special day. We were lucky to have a three gun salute from the cannon under the direction of Captain Morrill's Company. We also had a presentation done by Lt. Jeff Gersbach of the Newton Fire Department, honoring Chief Dave Baker, who passed away earilier this year. Jeff had a proclamation signed by Gov. Lynch declaring May 31st, as Chief Dave Baker Day. Chief Baker's wife rode in the Foresty Truck and the Grandchildren rode in the Engine Trucks. In addition to this, the Board of Selectmen, (myself as Chair, Bob Donovan Jr, & Ray Thayer) read a proclamation declaring May 1st, as Silver Star Day for our men and woman in the armed services. Thanks to the efforts of Sgt. Mike Jewett, we had a great sound system. The Veteran's from the Kingston Vet's Club and the VFW Post 1088, combined an Honor Guard and Color Guard, with a 21 gun salute followed by Taps. It was a very emotional day!

Off to appointments for the day. Just wrote an offer on a property. It great to see that the market is turning around. I am happy to share that I am seeing multiple offers on my listings, and one broke list price. So it proves the market is good for both sellers and buyers. Professional Standards Course taken by over 40 realtors

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors held their last training for the year in Professional Standards and Code of Ethics. The class was held at the Realtor State headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts on Wednesday November 18, 2008 and was attended by over 40 Realtors from all over the state. The class was a full day and included a box lunch. Two other instructors participated in this all day event, Paula Sivard and Elaine Hoff. This training will allow the Realtors to be selected for a hearing panel should one be needed. The class also satisfies the requirement of the National Association of Realtors for this training every four years. The class ended in a mock hearing with the participants in the class.

National Realtor Convention in Orlando, Florida

Trisha McCarthy, (Newburyport Realtor President) and Linda Carey, (Newburyport Executive Officer), attended the National Association of Realtor Annual Convention in Orlando Florida. Trisha's grandson Ricky Harris also attended and is pictured here with birds that had been rescued by a Florida resident after they had been abused. They attended daily meetings on market issues, trends, mortgage issues, stimulas packages, and the installation of the 2009 President of the National Association of Realtors, Mr. Charles McMillan from Texas. Trisha represented 265 realtors at the Delagate Body and Board of Directors meetings, where they voted in favor of four-points to bring to DC. This four-point leislative plan will be presented to Congress by the National Association of Realtors in an effort to assist the housing market: 1. to make the $7,500.00 tax credit available to all buyers (not just first time home buyers), and to eliminate the repayment requirement. 2. Make the Fannie & Freddie loan limits of $729,750.00 permanent instead of letting the limits to drop to $625,000.00 in January of 2009 as currently planned. 3. Get the U.S. Treasury to use funds from the $700 billion rescue to create a mortgage insterest-rate buydown program to 4.02% from the current average of 6.07%. 4. Permanently bar banks from entering real estate brokerage or management. This annual convention had about 22,000 realtors there. Trisha also is a member of the National Association of Realtors committee in Land Use, Public Policy and Environmental Issues.

On Thursday 9/4/08, Trisha attended the MAR Government Affairs meeting in Waltham at the Realtor Association headquarters. This committee, chaired by Kim Allard-Moccia discussed many issues that our industry is facing. Trisha gave her update from the Realtor Political action committee with information from January to August 31st of 2008. We were brought up to date with issues on foreclosures and short sales. This is an issue that will continue to be top on the list of discussions with leadership and legal council. What a great time we had celebrating the birthdays of Trisha, Ann Marie, Donna, Barbara and Anita. Anita couldn't join us because she was en route to the Boat Show in Salem Harbor to show her yacht the Full Moon. Great weather and the lobster's were fabulous. Trisha McCarthy Running for NH House of Representative

Trisha is running for the Democratic House of Representative seat in a co-ordinated campaign with current NH House Representative Kim Casey. Trisha has worked on houseing and conservation issues, assissted in grants including a successful LCHIP grant. Also working on a grant for a safe road to schools, and housing and conservation planning programs for Newton.

Newton's Transfer Station Held A Free Weekend

On August 23 & 24th of 2008, Newton Conservation Commission and Transfer Station Employees had a very busy weekend. In an effort to fight Triple EEE and West Nile Virus in Newton, New Hampshire the Newton Transfer Station manger (Andy Morse) and the employees, Bill, Tom, Theresa and Scott worked side by side with Trisha McCarthy, (Newton Selectmen) and Pat Wonson, (Newton Conservation Commission) and allowed Newton residents to bring in tires and bulk items at no charge. Over 1500 tires were collected in two days. This co-ordinated effort has been a huge success and was as a result of Trisha McCarthy and Andy Morse. The townspeople were extremely grateful that the selectmen allowed this event to take place.

Re/Max On The River was one of the sponsors for the Amesbury Triathlon in 2008. Here you see Trisha and grandson Ricky, taking a break. Trisha and Ricky assisted in the cooking on grills and at the water table for the runners during this hot and humid day. Over 300 people participated in the Triathlon.

Improvements at Town Hall

Just a little update on improvements on the Newton, NH town hall. The employees are enjoying the face lift inside the walls of the old Town Hall. Fresh new paint with custom colors has made a huge improvement. In addition to this the Town Administrators Office has been moved into the rear of the building, affording her more private time to work on Town issues and search for Grant Money for the Town.

Newton, New Hampshire is a small little Town that borders Northern Massachusetts. Recently our Town Clerk and Tax Collector, (Ray Thayer), has decided to resign after many years of service. The Town wants to thank Ray for all his hard work and has invited friends and co-workers of Ray's to join them in a retirement party on July 9th, 2007 at the Newton Town Hall from 5-8pm. Meanwhile on the Real Estate front, Newton (as of 6/20/07) has 67 single family homes for sale, 5 Condos, 3 multi-families, and 12 parcels of land. There are 4 single family homes and one condo under contract and scheduled to close. In addition to that it is interesting to note that only 19 homes and/or condos have actually transferred and closed since Jan. 1, 2007.
